Lincoln METCO sets June 6 Juneteenth celebration with afternoon program and outdoor festival

LINCOLN — Lincoln's official news channels were quiet Thursday, with no fresh items on the town's News Flash and no new postings from Lincoln-Sudbury or the K-8 district. The library is staging a run of early-summer programs, and Lincoln METCO has firmed up plans for a town-wide Juneteenth celebration on June 6.

SCHOOLS

Lincoln METCO is promoting a community-wide Juneteenth celebration on Saturday, June 6, sponsored by the Boston Bridges Initiative. Vendor tables open at 12:30 p.m., the formal program runs 1 to 2 p.m., and outdoor festivities continue from 2:30 to 4 p.m. The district says the afternoon will feature Boston Kroc Center performances, local vendors, a STEP team, poetry, food, dance, a DJ and bouncy houses.

The most recent districtwide note from Lincoln Public Schools is Superintendent Parry Graham's bi-weekly message of May 22, which previewed an unsettled Memorial Day weekend for families. No new bi-weekly message had posted as of Thursday. At Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High School, the latest "News & Happenings" from Superintendent/Principal Andrew Stephens remains the May 14 edition, with no new community-news posting in this cycle.

COMMUNITY & ARTS

The Lincoln Public Library continues to flag the Library Lane construction zone, asking patrons to budget extra travel time to get to the building and lot; details are posted at lincolnbigdig.com. The library is also accepting submissions for the Virginia Rundell Award and has launched its second annual Seed Library for the growing season.

On the events side, the library's June calendar opens with Storytime! For All Ages on Tuesday, June 2, followed on Wednesday, June 3, by Pride Yoga and the weekly Knitting & Stitching Group for handcrafters.
